Work environment is good and flexible. Cutting edge technology if you are in the right place. Tallented people

Compensation is avarage. Highly political environment. Almost impossible to have real impact. Cooperation with other internal organization is close to impossible. No real career development.

Time to get out

Thursday, 13 September 2007

You get to play with high tech hardware & software, some of the forward leading edge products, and lots of beta stuff. Compensation can be especially good, but only if you have a manager that likes you and has enough sense to pay his employees well.

Engagement teams regularly lie to the customer to get a deal, saw that over and over. Promised things that couldn't be done or a long term project promised in short term. VP & management regularly making stupid decisions that affect morale, jobs, customer support, ability to grow location. You get to move up only if you kiss rear or play politics, neither are agreeable to common sense. Sending most 1st & 2nd level support to Brazil & India, expect customer satisfaction to fall tremendously in 2008. Lots of job cuts coming. Look now while the job market is still good.

They are only good at PR

You are just a cost line in a budget. Raises ACROSS the board are being held at 2% Y2Y while the fat cats at the top get fatter. IGS has not hit its revenue target in years. Profit comes from shipping your job overseas and dividends are inflated b/c of stock buy backs. They are goos at two things: PR and financial engineering. That is it.

Get your free training and move on fast!

IBM provided free PeopleSoft training, with that I was motivated to move up by leaving IBM and do my own consulting...having made over TEN times the amount of money I would have by staying at IBM, I've never looked back

It's all about 'headcount', the managers can't even see your face, they have zero interest in you, it's a numbers game that stupid people (the managers) play, thinking that they are going to move up in the company...yeah right...moving up in a company that size is only for the very politically oriented

forward thinking; at least 5 years ahead of companies my friends and family work at in term of management, work/life, respect for the individual; we are hard driven but for those that can drive hard the rewards are plentiful

the seperate dept's. at times march to different drums. cooperation between dept's can be like wild dogs at the kill, we tend to bite each other more than we work as a team

It has connected with world-wide IBM network which is second to none in the knowledge and experiences of IT and business.

Poor management.
Non-innovated, only mimic an innovation like many other companies.

Okay, but unreliable, inconsistent, fragmented

Tuesday, 07 August 2007

It's large, international, varied, complex, challenging, flexible, diverse, politically correct and mostly neutral, generally open-minded.

Lacking strategy, fragmented, slow, arbitrary, autistic, old-fashioned.
