The end is nigh Services Canada I'm with a year or so of retirement but there's a really good chance I'll get WFR'd and even a half a package is better than going on your own. for the same reasons mentioned over and over by earlier reviewers, no pay increases in years, constant claw backs on benefits, etc., etc. This company is really in need of a true leader and believer in people. Many before have yearned for the days of Bill and Dave, well I say what we need are the days of Ken Olsen a true believer in the Golden Rule.

Bad HP Products / Bad HP Customer Service Manager United States HP no longer cares about quality or the customer, only the bottom line. There is growing number of unhappy HP customers, but HP does not care. Before you buy do some searching on the internet. e.g. "unhappy HP customers", "I hate HP", etc. check out: www.ripoffreport.com www.complaintsboard.com www.unhappyHPcustomers.blogspot.com www.shameonHP.blogspot.com I couldn't work for a company that lacks integrity, thus I quit!

HP dying from within technical United States Well, it is marginally better than having no job. HP just cut our severance packages yet again. Last time they did it they talked about coming in line with "industry standards". This time, no reason. We get 1% or zero raises. Hiring freezes. They only hire consultants and not real employees. They are moving everything they can to China and India. Goodbye American innovation. Give it all to the Indians and Chinese. I hope that India and China steal their IP in the long run and these jerks learn a lesson. They ought to be tried for treason in helping the commies gain technical superiority. This company and this CEO disrespects us at every turn. He is a greedy money grubbing jerk. I hope that he gets hit by a bus. Many more employees hate him than like him. Morale is at an all time low. Most would leave if they could. Many interview and look around in case something better comes along. I know that I do. Even when numbers are good and your division does well and you work hard, you expect to get laid off. The cuts are constant and you never have ANY sort of feeling that you belong, that this is "your" company. They treat us like we are all temp workers and let's face it they will eventually WFR (fire) all of us so that they can just hire temps and contractors and not pay any benefits. That's the new model. Pensions? Gone. Stock options? They don't seem to be giving them to anyone but people like Hurd. There is only an incentive to work enough to not get fired and to look for something better outside HP. There are no water coolers you have to bring in your own bottled water to drink. They took away the flavored teas. No dairy for coffee or tea. They still offer coffee and tea but with that non dairy garbage. Why bother? They are selling off all their real estate and renting in small buildings and even then it's not enough. They are always squeezing more and more. They invest thousands in moving an office to a smaller one only to try to close that too. Internal service is terrible. You can't get parts for your servers or systems. You have to call call centers just like external customers and the people down there in 3rd world land are script reading morons who just don't "get it". You get what you pay for, Hurd. So much lost productivity in frustration and red tape, all to save a few dimes. This guy is an idiot he obviously can't see that because he is in the board room and not in the trenches doing REAL WORK. He's just an accountant. Oh, even our employee discounts suck. I buy other companies' products at better deals through Internet etailers. There is no HPWAY. It's over and done. Thanks to Hurd and the new breed of corporate rapist. Oh, but be sure to throw my bonus and non existent pension money at some celebrity "face" or Jerry Seinfeld though. Nice touch, Mark. My kid thanks you. I bet your kids don't want for anything. MARK HURD IS A TRAITOR TO THE TRADITIONAL AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE. THIS BRAND OF CORPORATE RAPIST MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE THERE ARE NO MORE AMERICAN EMPLOYEES OF AMERICAN COMPANIES. There will be no decent jobs and we will all be flipping burgers. Why bother getting an education when you have this to look forward to? Thanks God for small & medium companies because the large ones are soulless pits of despair. Thanks again, Mark & Carly.

Virgin Disillusionment...sad Development Engineer United States I work with some great folks. Pulling together on a team with intelligent, driven women and men with expertise in different disciplines, finding solutions, developing new products and processes, and I've had a few good managers and one great one. The bottom line- local, within-job-level- the work, camaraderie, feeling appreciated is great. I'm feeling my first real strong disillusionment with HP C-O team. I felt I should give this 'new team' a chance to shake up the old systems, a new broom sweeps clean and all that. However, this cold, callous and finely calculated 1-2 punch of the marcella-gram regarding the 50% (at least) reduction in layoff benefits & severance pay, followed with the awareness that tomorrow (4/30/08) there are going to be axes falling all over the fabs...but, but, BUT...the reduction won't actually go 'live' until such a date as the reduction in severance benefits can kick in. Way to save a couple of bucks, C-O's. Way to prove your 'connection' with the company. A little insight here- these folks that you're reducing are the ONES THAT GET THE PRODUCTS OUT THE DOOR!!! Us engineers design & optimize, but many of us couldn't run a photo tool or wafer dicer if our jobs depended on it. You're throwing away a TON of tribal knowledge and this will COST the company in the end. The lack of empathy inherent in the timing is frankly appalling, and makes me ashamed to be a part of this organization. I did not think I'd ever feel that way and I have a deep pain around my heart over this. I'm very sadly disillusioned.

Microcosm of the US Engineer United States I work in one the remaining technology development areas and as such get to work with very bright people, fun projects, exotic equipment and materials. Still many friends here, makes some of the BS easier to deal with. Just like in the US, making stuff doesn't matter at HP anymore. Massive transfers of wealth from the masses to the uppper levels (uh, more tax cuts so we can finance our country on borrowed funds from China, oh, yeah, at the same time we are spending on war, who are these idiots). If Bill and Dave could walk in the doors, they would fire Hurd, all of his cronies, restore the faith and belief that the company is employees, shareholders, and customers. HP has become the antithesis of the original company, the most radical corporate thinkers are long dead and gone. Now we are run by bean counters with no soul... Waiting for my exit papers, EER, VSI, or more likely just another "Marcela-gram" of reduced WFR, why, same reason a dog licks his Ba11s, cuz he can...

Turds standards of business conduct IT United States I have seen a lot of good talkers, but mark hurd is the best, I will give him that. Carly was up there with him, but at least she had vision, company goals, and strived to lead HP into the next chapter with what HP does best, INVENT. mark hurd can not see past the here and now, let alone the concept of invent. There are only two things that mark hurd does. 1)cost cut by ripping apart employee benefits, and 2)Buying other companies and thier inventions and calling it R&D investment. If you are looking at working at HP, give it a long good looking into. The pension plan is gone, stock purchase plan is crap now, the 401k plan sucks, and the medical insurance that HP provides you will need, cause it costs you an arm and a leg. HP was a leader, then went to benchmarking, and now has gone to benchmarking minus 20%-40% for employees.

New World Order Turd Shoveler United States HP should be fostering great Ideas and the opportunity that comes with that. "Happy to be here" is probably an HP HR sucker. Just the reference to "competitive salary" is right out of the HR/Management handbook to screw employees. It's just there way of justifying their actions. Give me a break. Every time HP has said they made a change to pay/benefits to be "Competitive" and "Inline with current market practices" meant more out of my pocket and less take home pay for my kids. Wake up HP, call Turd out at his "All hands Meetings!"

Wake up! service United States I think the person who wrote the positive comment really needs to take a closer look at what is going on around him. I understand things are competitive but we made a tremendous profit this year and passed many many goals and still no rewards no bonus no raise and customers are getting tired of the horrible service from phone support. All I hear in the field is how they can't understand the person they call, they loose the call or take forever to get it out and so many negative comments we will never recover from it. All the money and profits from closing offices to outsourceing to not stocking parts to cutting benefits is going somewhere. Its not going back into the company to be more "competive" so where do you think it is going? When greed takes hold it never gets better so in the long run it is going to catch up until someone decides to not be as greedy and steals the business. If employees are happy the customers are happy and I think we all understand that the employees all know (except for that one guy) that we are on the losing end of this game

A different view United States I am reading an awful lot of negativity and bashing of HP in the employee reviews on this website. I thought I'd add a positive one. I've worked at HP for 10 years and think it's a great place to work. Sure, things have changed. Sure, things have been taken away. But we are competing in a very competitive, even brutal business in a far more global environment than ever. And if we want HP to continue to exist, then change will happen. The changes aren't horrible. They still keep us competitive in the market. Wages are good even though people like to complain about them. I get to work with really smart people, get paid a competitive wage and do challenging work that matters. What more could someone ask for out of a job? I think the people that are so unhappy should find someplace else to go. They might then discover that HP wasn't so bad after all!

chop chop chop customer support European Union i don't like it. it is shit. so many reasons but the cause of them all is Mark Turd and his obsessive chopping away at the operational bits that made the company work. HP is now nearly dysfunctional for service delivery and most effort goes into fixing what these cretins have broken. If Hurd wants to cut out the useless excess fat from the company then he need not look any further than his useless Services Executive Vice President Ann Livermore. It's the employees and customers who are getting the raw deal. The execs are a cheating bunch of wasters just lining their own pockets by sucking up to investors with the promise of a quick profit. The long term outlook is bleak for HP because of the cutting to try and make the company look profitable is removing it's ability function. And who really gives a fuck anymore - working your ass off gets you the same treatment as just turning up and looking busy.

Services Employee Project Manager United States Hot company, hot CEO, could pass annual revenue of US$120 billion in fiscal 08. Ability to work from home. I know people here - don't see them much though. You are a number, not a name; a liability, not an asset. No pay raises - so shrinking take home pay every year. Uneven bonuses - some get none, some 10+%. No fun - distributed groups, never see your manager or peers, no fun activities or off-site meetings. Constant fear of layoffs, especially for Services employees aged 45 or older. Training by web only, hard to do it face-to-face. Lip service paid to career growth. Personnel is off-shore, doesn't care, never see them. Shrinking benefits - get less every year. Shareholders first, customers distant second, employees very distant third. It basically comes down to your immediate manager - if he or she is decent, you're ok; if not, watch out! I'll stop now!

worse job ever Project Manager United States of nothing. I hate it! Terrible work-life balance. The HP saying is work is life and life is work, that's the balance. I get to work my ass off for no raise and no promotion while hearing weekly about the rewards my boss is getting by him! How inappropriate! I can't stand to get another fuckin email about how his fuckin pool construction is going! What an inconsiderate low-life looser! I guess his bonus, raise and/or stock options were real good! I used to like this company and would have recommended it years ago, but the constant fear of layoffs, lack of pay increases, lack of peer moral, more work, less benefits, more stress, less security, hell, can i say buy DELL?! I want to say "I have stock in my 401k, so I guess I hope HP does well with the "street", but hopefully they'll do well without me. I'm trying to leave everyday, but this company reflects the economy, which is get the rich richer and the middle class poorer, so there aren't much jobs to be had now and the ones out there pay as bad with little benefits. As soon as i can find something else I'll treat HP just like they've treated me in the last couple of years...let's just say "redeployment"...For the first time in my life I won't hesitate to leave my projects in the red and hanging...I saw to many of my peers get the shaft and let go, oh sorry, it's called re-deployment, two weeks before Christmas. Thanks Marc Turd and your stupid selfish "rock-star" IT CIO Randy Cock! It's a paycheck for now, but an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth - I can't wait for this company to get what's coming to them! HP can't keep eating itself, which is why the stock is doing so well - on the back of the employees. What a piece of crap, what a miserable shit-hole, there's no incentive other than to keep your job and get a paycheck in this terrible economy. My advice to HP employees reading this...do the minimum to keep from being "redeployed", save your money, surf the internet for every hour you've had to work OT and look for another job that doesn't treat you as a role, a number, or a piece of shit. Love you not!

Mark Hurd HP labs senior engineer I would like to first start off that if I could rate things a zero, I would. With that said, I would like to ponder what Mark Hurd has really done for the COMPANY. Well let's see. He has cut costs by lowering HP's cost in benefit packages and transferred the costs to the employees. There is a saving for HP. He has cut raises to most everyone, upper management, VP's and him excluded. There is a substantial savings to the company. He has cut all overtime and had our superiors rag us for not getting crucial work done unless we work for free. Mark my words here; he will cut the variable performance bonus (VPB), to basically nothing for anyone who is on an hourly salary. Mark has cut pay for many employees calling it a benchmark move. I could go on and on with the lower hard working class cuts, but I won't. So now let's see what Mark Hurd has done for the company to push it into the next phase of profitability.... Revenues are not really up, just profits from employee cost cutting. No new "INVENT" has happened, our motto. We lost market share in every aspect of our cash cow, the printer division. In other words, HP's cash cow is now losing ground to all our competitors under the guidance of all mighty Mark Hurd. To put it all in a nutshell, there is only so much employee cost cutting one can do before there is no more to do. Yeah, sure, the darn shareholders are happy right now. And Marks millions of stock options are increasing, before he is asked to leave and given millions for hosing the company in the long term. Honestly, what has Mark Hurd done in his tenure here at HP that has not been cost cutting? With all of HP's resources, we can not bring in some new technology to put us flying high again? Mark Hurd does not want to invest in that because that would not be cost cutting..... Our EC's and board of directors need to be ousted, just like Mark. Bring back the Packard Kid to take over.... Enough said.....

Blame the management not the merger Consultant United Kingdom I read these comments, and it makes me sad how many Compaq and Digital veterans blame HP, and how many HP veterans blame Compaq. You know both our comapnies used to be great places to work. HP was heading downhill before the merger, and we looked at Michael Capellas as the Saviour of HP, who would restore the faith, and he left, leaving us all at Carly's less than tender mercies, closely followed by Mark Hurd, who only knows how to cut costs, not turn a profit. Of course the stockholder don't give a **** as long as they get a nice dividend, and neither does the board. No one from the senior management is going to give a flying **** about what we write here. I bet they don't even know this place exists. The only positive comments here are from people who have come to HP from the corporate straight-jackets like IBM. Perhaps there is one post here that does strike a chord. I can't believe I am going to say this considering my political nature, but maybe it is a time for a Union. See hwo the profits crumble if we all"work to rule" - no overtime, only doing our contracted hours. Do that for one straight quarter and itmight make them sit up and think. I don't want a 15% pay rise, and a return to the days of free cola and fruit, but a guaranteed pay rise in line with cost of living, and a return of key benefits schemes would be a start. It sickens me to see them use Bill and Dave's legacy with the new SBC, and ignore the rest of their legacy by screwing the staff . . . roll on retirement . . .

Transforming from good to great TSG United States I joined HP a few years ago from IBM. Here at HP, there is much more teamwork, innovation, creativity and customer-focus. You have unlimited opportunities to learn and grow. Mark Hurd is leading HP through a painful transformation that is restoring the company to role of industry-leader. I talk with customers every day who value HP products/services and will gladly spend less with IBM and more with HP. Two or three layers down from Mark Hurd there are still a number of incompetent managers in the system...but they'll be gone soon. Salary raises are tiny, but that should change next year given our current turn-around trajectory. Culture still too has too much of an engineering flavor.

help.. am taking all the _ _ _ _ from top procurement United States lower level worker benefits and merit increase will be gone someday.VP-Manager-talkers at the top getting more and more richer. At the bottom, the harder you work, the more they load work to you - then they cut more benefits. It is like squezzing blood out of you. At the top and management level it is the opposite. This is how they get those numbers...QoQ, YoY.

Bury me with the HP Way Consultant United Kingdom Errrm . . .I'm still trying to think of one . . . oh yeah I get free pictures of senior managers to practice darts with. I work 14+ hour days, and one day I will probably die from the stress. When I do, Steve Gill, Ann Livermore, and Mark Hurd can bury me alongside a copy of the HP Way because they would have killed us both. Look at it this way, in 2002 HP was still listed as one of the top 5 companies to world for IN THE WORLD. Now we cannot even make one of the top 100 IT companies to work for just in the UK. We constantly have our benefits cut because we are "above the market average", however because HP are so big, any change moves the average down, so the management in reality want HP to be a below average company. And any benefits that are left are now beiing transferred to systems administered by employees, adding more burden to our lives. The guy who put a thumbs up to the work/life balance must be the only one! I personally think the Hewlett and Packard family should sue HP to force it to change the name, as it bears no comparison the Bill and Dave's original vision, and it is an embarassment to their legacy. Poor Pay, Poor benefits, no job security (constant threats of redundancies), and no happiness . . . but the company is doing great . . . buy HP and promote slave labour. I will be leaving very soon ;-)

IT Services Canada King Mark and Queen Ann have managed to accumlate an amazing $40 million in Salary, bonuses and stock options for FY 2007. That just goes to show you how hard work pays off, doesn't it! Here is some perspective of how much money that really is. An HP employee who earns $50k per year, would have to work 800 years to equal what our "leaders" earned in one year! Feudalism hasn't passed into the ages, my fellow serfs, its just evolved into a much more sophisticated structure.
